“Call for Creation!” – New Visions for a Collective Future
The 8th International Sociodrama Conference
The International Sociodrama Conference Network invites you to the 8th Sociodrama Conference which will take place in June 2024 in Budapest, Hungary.
Everybody from all over the globe using the Morenian method for community, organization and social intervention are welcome to share their practice, learn and exchange ideas, participate in local actions, and especially to work sociodramatically on the main theme of the conference:
The conference is aiming to react to ongoing global crises which disrupt our routines, hopes, and previous goals in many areas of life. In these circumstances we tend to presume that narratives, solutions and experiences of the past can no longer serve as a model for the future. It seems that fundamental trends and long-established standards we have been following for so long are direct causes of today’s crises and of forthcoming collapses.
For many of us there are no positive scenarios to look towards, and the future seems threatening and unfathomable. The strong social division and the fragmentation of societies make it increasingly difficult to establish a shared understanding, and create visions about the future and the collective actions we should take. This very new and complex situation is a perfect ground for authoritarian regimes which appeal to basic fears, identify tangible enemies and exploit the crises for short term, selfish power purposes.
The question emerges: how could the democratic world care for our globe and its population? How to overcome division and fragmentation? What forms of collectivities should be created? What do resilient communities and resilient humanity that are able to deal with new challenges look like? What new forms of economy, politics and social care do we need to survive? We all know that the actions we now take together, will determine our future in fundamental ways.
Morenian methods, including sociodrama, have always been tools for shared exploration of social relations and their transformation. The idea of co-creating “superdynamic” collectives and networks which become able to renew “cultural and social conserves” and their own previous functioning is at the core of sociodramatic thinking. By creating new ties and exploring new ways of connections, new insights for collective action emerge. The Budapest Sociodrama Conference follows this ambition and calls for the co-creation of the future.
Let’s come together for this sociodramatic investigation, to share the values and knowledge of our communities!
Art, Practice and Research in Sociodrama. The conference will focus on 9 main areas where sociodrama can have an impact on the formation of the future. and in which participants can submit their abstracts:
